What is an Outrigger (OC):

An outrigger (OC) is a long, narrow boat equipped with an outrigger (AMA) that makes it easy to balance and very stable. There are one, two and six-person boats. The paddles used are angled and rounded. The OC technique is very similar to that of the dragon boat. In fact, it is possible to use a dragon boat paddle.

The OC is a very suitable boat for beginners who have never paddled before. Thus, at your own pace and in a safe way, you will learn little by little the joys of gliding and the individual technique required.

For advanced paddlers, you will find the OC to be an opportunity to increase your individual technique and fitness by learning to “glide” an individual boat. The outrigger is also known to be a very good “testing” tool, an excellent way to test the individual performance of dragon boat paddlers.

What is a paddleboard (SUP)?

Stand up paddle, also known as SUP or paddle board, is a water sliding sport where the rider stands on a board longer than a conventional surfboard, propelling himself with a paddle.

Today, it is possible to encounter two different types of boards: rigid or inflatable.

Rigid boards are very similar to surfboards, allowing for a better glide on the water and therefore remain preferred in surfing or speed competition conditions. Inflatable boards are evolving every year towards better performance. Inflated at high pressure, the boards become rigid enough to carry a person without bending.

Anyone can practice it, beginners and advanced, from 7 to 77 years old, whether you are a man or a woman.

Navigation rules Montreal Olympic Basin:

Please respect the new hygienic measures imposed by Parc Jean Drapeau as well as the navigation rules of the Olympic Basin. These rules are posted at the entrance of the basin and in front of the docks. At the opening of the basin (July 6), the navigation configuration will be seven lanes.

For the SUP and the OC, you must use the dragon boat lanes shown on the map below.
